Tags are used to organize and categorize metrics, dashboards, and data feeds. Applying tags to these assets is a great way to quickly find and interact with groups of related content in your PowerMetrics account.
This article includes:
Note: This article describes working with tags in the tag management UI, however, you can also apply, remove, replace, add, and delete asset tags using the AI Assistant. Learn more here.
How can I interact with tags?
You interact with tags based on your PowerMetrics role:
- As an Account Administrator, you can view and delete tags for the account.
- As an Editor, you can add, edit, view, and delete tags for the account and add, remove, and view tags for data feeds, metrics, and dashboards.
- As a Contributor, you can add, remove, and view tags for metrics and dashboards.
- As a Viewer, you can view tags that have been applied to metrics and dashboards.
Account-level tag management
In the account admin UI, you add, edit, view, and delete tags for the account. Your actions create a list of available tags for others to apply to their metrics, dashboards, and data feeds.
All of these actions are accessed by clicking the
button located in the left navigation sidebar and selecting Tag management. (See below.)
Note: Editor users can also access the tag management UI when interacting with tags in an asset library by clicking Manage all tags. (See below for an example in the Metrics Library.)
Adding tags to the account
Users with an editor role can create new tags at the account level that others can then add to any asset type.
To add tags:
- In the Tag management window, click +New tag.
- Enter a name and, optionally, choose a different colour, and add a description.
- Click Save.
The new tag is added to the top of the list.
Editing account-level tags
After creating a tag, you can edit its name, colour, and description.
To edit tags:
- In the Tag management window, either select the tag or click the 3-dot menu at the end of its row and click Edit.
- Modify the name, colour, or description, and click Save.
Viewing account-level tags
In the Tag management window, you can see a list of all the tags in the account, and how many metrics, dashboards, and data feeds each tag is applied to. You can narrow down the list by entering a tag name in the Search field, or by clicking the drop-down menu at Display and filtering to only show the tags you created.
You can also select a tag from the list to view details, such as its owner, the date and time it was created, when it was last edited, and how many metrics, dashboards, and data feeds are using it.
Deleting tags from the account
From time to time, you may want to delete tags, for example, if you’ve reached the limit of 200 tags per account. Note: To see how many tags your account is currently using, refer to the tag count in the lower-right corner of the tag management window.
To delete tags:
-
To delete multiple tags, in the Tag management window, select the checkbox beside each tag you want to delete. Then, click the
Delete button.
- To delete an individual tag, in the Tag management window, click the 3-dot menu at the end of the tag’s row and click Delete.
